History of March Equinox in Croatia and How to Celebrate/ Observe It
The March equinox occurs in Croatia when the sun is directly above the equator and day and night are of equal length. This happens on or around March 20th each year. After the March equinox, days become longer than nights until the June solstice.
In Croatia, the vernal (spring) equinox is known as “osvit” and signals the end of winter and the start of spring. It’s a time when nature awakens from its winter slumber and new life begins to sprout. On this day, Croats traditionally clean their homes from top to bottom and plant gardens.
