History of New Year’s Eve in Armenia and How to Celebrate/ Observe It
In Armenia, New Year’s Eve is celebrated on December 31st. The holiday is known as “Tatik Papik” which means “Grandfather and Grandmother”. It is a time when family and friends get together to eat, drink, and be merry. The traditional meal is Khash, a soup made with beef or lamb bones. Other popular dishes include Dolma (stuffed grape leaves), Baklava (a sweet pastry), and Kufte (meatballs).
Toasts are often given during the meal and at midnight, everyone raises their glasses and wishes each other a Happy New Year. After the meal, people often go out to clubs or bars to continue the celebration. The next day, January 1st, is a public holiday in Armenia and many people spend the day with family and friends.
