History of Sri Shayama Puja in Bangladesh and How to Celebrate/ Observe It
Sri Shayama Puja is a Hindu festival celebrated in Bangladesh. It is celebrated on the full moon day of the month of Shrabon, which usually falls in August or September. The festival commemorates the birth of Sri Krishna, one of the most revered Hindu gods. The celebration includes traditional prayers, songs, and offerings to Lord Krishna.
The celebration begins with a prayer session that includes chanting of mantras and devotional songs dedicated to Lord Krishna. After that, devotees offer flowers, fruits and sweets as gifts to the deity. People also light diyas (small oil lamps) and perform aarti (ritual worship). This ritual is followed by a feast, which is usually prepared with traditional dishes like khichuri, pulao, and payesh.
On this special day, people also decorate their homes with colorful decorations and prepare special sweets like rasgulla, sandesh, and laddu. They also dress up in traditional attire and gather to sing devotional songs. Some people also fast for the entire day and break the fast at midnight. This is done to seek blessings from the Almighty for good health and prosperity. Finally, on the last night of the puja, people take a holy bath in rivers and perform aarti before offering prayers to the deities.
