Let's dive deeper into learning more about the history of World Jump Day and why people celebrate or observe it.
History of World Jump Day and How to Celebrate/ Observe It
In 2008, a group of scientists and mathematicians came up with the idea of World Jump Day – a day when everyone on Earth would jump at the same time in order to give the planet a boost. The thinking behind it was that the combined energy of all the jumpers would be enough to slightly alter the Earth’s orbit and help it avoid a collision with another planet.
The plan was to get as many people as possible to jump on July 20, 2016, at 10:00 am UTC (Coordinated Universal Time). The group behind World Jump Day created a website and a social media campaign to try to get the word out.
As of July 2016, there is no evidence that World Jump Day actually had any effect on the Earth’s orbit. However, it remains an interesting idea, and it’s possible that if enough people had participated, it could have made a difference.
