Epiphany in Germany is celebrated on January 6th and is known as Dreikönigstag, or the Three Kings’ Day. This holiday commemorates the Wise Men, or Magi, who brought gifts to baby Jesus. In many German homes, a special cake called a Dreikönigskaute is baked for the occasion. This cake is decorated with a star and has three candles placed on top, representing the three kings. On Dreikönigsstag, children often dress up as the Wise Men and go door to door singing carols. They are typically given candy or small coins as a reward.
