History of Guru Govind Singh Jayanti in India and How to Celebrate/ Observe It
Guru Govind Singh Jayanti commemorates the birth of Guru Govind Singh, the 10th Sikh Guru. It is celebrated on the Purnima (full moon) in the month of Paush (December-January) as per the Nanakshahi calendar. Guru Govind Singh was born on December 22, 1666, in Patna, Bihar.
He was the only son of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru. Guru Gobind Singh was formally installed as the leader of the Sikhs at the age of nine, after the martyrdom of his father. He is considered one of the most influential figures in Sikh history.
Under his leadership, the Sikh community was united and strengthened. He also introduced several reforms within the community, such as the introduction of the five Ks and the concept of Amrit (holy nectar).
Guru Govind Singh spent the last years of his life in Deccan, where he was eventually killed in battle. His martyrdom further strengthened the Sikh community and cemented their resolve to fight against oppression.
