Guru Nanak Jayanti, also known as Gurpurab, is a religious festival celebrated by Sikhs to mark the birth of their first guru, Guru Nanak. The festival falls on the full moon day in the month of Kartik and is one of the most sacred festivals in the Sikh calendar. Guru Nanak was born in 1469 in the village of Talwandi, now called Nankana Sahib, in Punjab, India. He was a spiritual leader and reformer who founded the Sikh religion. Guru Nanak’s birthday is also celebrated as Guru Nanak Prakash Utsav, which commemorates the light that Guru Nanak spread during his lifetime.
