History of New Year in Uzbekistan and How to Celebrate/ Observe It
Uzbekistan celebrates New Year on 1st January, in line with the Gregorian calendar. The holiday is known as Navruz, which means ‘new day’ in Uzbek. It is a time for families to get together and feast, as well as exchange gifts. There are also special New Year’s Eve concerts and parties held across the country. On Navruz, people dress up in traditional clothes and visit each other’s homes. The holiday is also a time for cleaning and decorating one’s house, as it is believed that this will bring good luck for the year ahead.
