History of Republic Day in India and How to Celebrate/ Observe It

The Republic Day in India is celebrated on the 26th of January every year. It is a national holiday in India which marks the day when the Constitution of India came into effect. The Constitution of India was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on the 26th of November, 1949 and came into effect on the 26th of January, 1950. The Republic Day is thus celebrated to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India and the establishment of the Indian Republic.

The Republic Day celebrations begin with the hoisting of the national flag by the President of India at the Rashtrapati Bhavan followed by the singing of the national anthem. A 21-gun salute is also given in honor of the occasion. The Republic Day Parade is held at the Rajpath in New Delhi which is led by the President of India. The parade consists of march past by the armed forces, cultural dances and tableaux representing various states of India. The Republic Day celebrations end with the flypast by the Indian Air Force.
