History of Singapore Armed Forces Day in Singapore and How to Celebrate/ Observe It

In Singapore, Armed Forces Day is celebrated on 1st July to commemorate the formation of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF). On this day, various events and activities are held island-wide to honour our soldiers and their contributions to Singapore.

The main event is usually held at the National Stadium, where a parade and ceremonial guard-of-honour inspection take place. This is followed by a flypast by the Republic of Singapore Air Force, and a spectacular fireworks display.

Other activities include an SAF Day Run, which is open to the public, and a series of musical performances by local and military bands. In addition, there are also exhibitions and displays showcasing the SAF’s equipment and capabilities.

This year’s SAF Day falls on a Sunday, so many of the events and activities will be held on that day. However, the parade and guard-of-honour inspection will take place on Saturday, 30 June.
