History of Spitak Remembrance Day in Armenia and How to Celebrate/ Observe It

In Armenia, Spitak Remembrance Day is observed on December 7th. It commemorates the victims of the 1988 Spitak earthquake, which killed over 25,000 people and injured many more. The earthquake destroyed much of the city of Spitak and surrounding areas, leaving tens of thousands of people homeless. The Armenian government declared a national day of mourning on the first anniversary of the disaster, and every year since then Armenians have held memorial services and candlelight vigils to honor the memory of those who lost their lives.
